The Youngstown Playhouse -
A Centennial of Live Theater
The Youngstown Playhouse - A Centennial of Live Theater is a 10-part documentary which chronicles the 100 year history of The Youngstown Playhouse. Co-produced by J.E. Ballantyne, Jr. and Michael Rossi and directed by Ballantyne, the film takes the viewer on a detailed history of this legendary theater in Youngstown, Ohio. With selected original music by Rick Blackson, the film follows the early beginnings of the theater from an old horse barn on Youngstown’s north side to its current 500+ seating facility just off Glenwood Avenue on the city’s south side. Much has happened in between the two facilities. Good times, bad times, major strides and major set-backs. The documentary visits most of the events which brought the Playhouse to its current level of success. Told through interviews, photographs, news reports, and personal recollections, the documentary takes the viewer through the events which made the Playhouse the cultural center of Youngstown.
